sangre, noun:
blood

When a noun ends in the letter -e like la sangre, you can’t tell if it’s masculine or feminine. So it’s useful to remember the article with it, and even better to learn it in a phrase. La sangre is often used in a metaphorical way, for instance in the phrase a sangre fría, in cold blood:

Lo mataron a sangre fría.
They killed him in cold blood.

You also use it to talk about your ancestry.

Somos de la misma sangre.
We’re from the same family OR We’re blood relations.

If you want to give literal blood, you use the phrase donar sangre:

Hace un rato fui a donar sangre.
I’ve just been to give blood.
