We’ve already come across relación referring to the connection or relationship between things.

No hay ninguna relación entre los dos accidentes.
There’s no connection between the two accidents.

You also use la relación to refer to personal relations and relationships.

Nunca ha tenido buenas relaciones con la prensa.
He’s never had a good relationship with the press.

Tenemos una relación de amistad.
We have a friendly relationship.
