gordo, adjective:
big

We’ve already seen that gordo not only means fat, it can also mean hefty, when referring to a book.

un libro gordo que pone ‘Política económica del Gobierno’
a hefty book which says ‘The Government’s Economic Policy’

A couple of other words with which you use gordo in a figurative way are una mentira, a lie, and un problema, a problem.

Es una gorda mentira que el público ha rechazado.
It’s a big lie that the public has rejected.

Es el problema más gordo que tiene.
It’s the biggest problem he’s got.
