wind
El viento comes from the Latin ventus, also meaning ‘wind’. And ventus is related to the same ancient word from which English wind ultimately comes. You can probably see that viento and wind are related in shape, if you swap letters v and w, and t and d.
As with other words to do with weather, you often use the verb hacer with viento: hacer viento, to be windy.
Hizo mucho viento anoche.
It was very windy last night.
