You can use relación in a variety of ways to refer to the connection or relationship between things.

No hay ninguna relación entre los dos accidentes.
There’s no connection between the two accidents.

El informe señala la estrecha relación entre pobreza y paro.
The report points to the close link between poverty and unemployment.

The phrase tener relación con means one thing is connected with or related to something else:

No sé si eso tiene alguna relación sala con el aumento del crimen.
I don’t know if this is connected in some way with the rise in crime.
