nervioso, adjective:
high strung, highly strung
As we’ve seen previously, nervioso is an adjective whose meaning depends on whether you use it with estar or ser. You use it more often with estar, in which case you translate it as nervous.
Está nerviosa porque tiene un examen.
She’s nervous because she’s got an exam.
But if people are high strung by nature, you describe them using nervioso with the verb ser:
Es un niño muy nervioso.
He’s a very high strung child.
