sala, noun:
room
La sala is a very versatile word, and can refer to many different types of room.
en la sala de estar
in the parlor, in the living room
la sala de profesores
the staffroom
la sala de espera
the waiting room
sala de chat
chatroom
But you can also use it to refer to spaces which we wouldn’t call rooms at all in English:
una sala de fiestas
a nightclub
Salas de fiestas are usually nightclubs where entertainment is provided.
And at airports, you may have to wait in la sala de embarque, the departure lounge.
