llenar, verb:
to fill

We’ve already come across lleno, full. Derived from it is llenar, to fill. In the next examples notice how you use de to translate with:

Llena la jarra de agua.
Fill the jug with water.

Llenó las estanterias de libros.
She filled the shelves with books.

In its figurative and extended meanings, you can use llenar in a similar way to English to fill.

Sus hijos lo llenaron de orguallo.
His children filled him with pride, He was very proud of his children.

No sabía cómo llenar las tardes.
She didn’t know how to fill her evenings.
