On birthdays, Christmas, and so forth it’s always nice to give and receive regalos, presents.

cachorros recibidos como regalo de Navidad
puppies given as Christmas presents

If you give someone a present, in Spanish you often use the verb hacer:

Isabel prefiere hacer sus regalos el 24 de diciembre.
Isabel prefers to give her presents on 24 December.

If you see something offered as de regalo, take it: it’s free!

Vajilla 20 piezas, más 20 piezas de regalo.
Crockery: twenty items, and 20 items free.
