lavar, verb:
to wash

Lavar is the basic word for washing any kind of object.

Voy a lavar el coche.
I’m going to wash the car.

When you talk about washing yourself, you use the reflexive form, lavarse.

Me lavo todos los días.
I wash every day.

¿Te has lavado las manos?
Have you washed your hands?

Notice how Spanish uses lavar for cleaning or brushing your teeth.

Me lavo los dientes después de comer.
I clean my teeth after eating.
