cuchillo, noun:
knife
Cuchillo refers to a kitchen knife and to other kinds of knife used around the house, rather than for defense.
un cuchillo de cocina
a kitchen knife
el cuchillo del pan
the breadknife
Several other words are derived from cuchillo. First, the verb, acuchillar, to stab.
Una californiana acuchilló a su hija de diecisiete años porque usaba cocaína.
A Californian woman stabbed her seventeen-year-old daughter because she was using cocaine.
The blow or wound received by a knife is una cuchillada.
Fue detenido acusado de asesinar a cuchilladas a un policía.
He was arrested on suspicion of having stabbed a policeman to death.
Adding -ero to a noun sometimes refers to the person who produces the thing named by the noun. So un cuchillero is someone who makes or sells knives, a cutler.
