garganta, noun:
throat

The meaning of la garganta is throat.

Me dolía la garganta.
I had a sore throat.

As with other body parts, you usually use the ‘article’ la, rather than words like mi, tu, and so forth.

Tengo la garganta seca.
My throat’s dry.

If you get a lump in your throat when you are upset or excited, the word in Spanish is nudo, literally a ‘knot’.

Tita no pudo responderle a Pedro. Un nudo en la garganta se lo impidió.
Tita couldn’t answer Pedro. The lump in her throat prevented her.
