tranquilo, adjective:
calm
Tranquilo is another Spanish adjective which covers two different English meanings. First, you use it to talk about your state of mind, in which case you use it with estar:
El día del examen estaba bastante tranquilo.
On the day of the exam I was quite calm.
Or you can use it with ser to refer to the way someone is by nature:
Es una persona muy tranquila.
She’s a very calm person.
You often use tranquilo with estar when you’re telling someone not to worry:
Está tranquilo, que ya vendrá.
Don’t worry, he’ll come soon.
In this meaning you can use tranquilo on its own, without estar, to mean calm down, or relax.
¡Tranquilo, no vale la pena enojarse!
Calm down, there’s no point in getting angry.
