supuesto, adjective:
supposed, alleged

Supuesto comes from the verb suponer, to suppose. Its basic meaning is supposed or alleged:

a causa de supuestas irregularidades en el banco
on account of alleged irregularities in the bank

You use it most often in the phrase por supuesto of course.

¿Puedo usar tu teléfono? - Por supuesto.
Can I use your phone? - Of course.

Notice how you use que before the verb clause in these next examples.

Por supuesto que iré.
Of course I’ll go.

Por supuesto que lo sabe.
Of course she knows.

You often use supuesto in the phrase dar algo por supuesto to take something for granted:

Dieron por supuesto que estábamos interesados.
They took it for granted we were interested.
