puesto, noun:
place; post, job; stall

Puesto means place in specific contexts. It’s often used when talking about rankings, especially in sport:

El Telediario-2 ocupa el segundo puesto con 3,3 millones.
Telediario-2 is in second position with 3.3 million.

la lucha por el segundo puesto
the fight for second place

Puesto often refers to a position or job:

Utilizó su puesto como obispo para difundir sus ideas políticas.
He used his position as bishop to spread his political ideas.

It also means a stall in a market:

Consigues cosas mucho más barato en los puestos del mercado.
You can get things much cheaper off market stalls.
