inocente, adjective:
innocent

Inocente parallels the meanings of innocent in English. It can either mean the opposite of guilty:

Todos somos víctimas inocentes del terrorismo.
We’re all innocent victims of terrorism.

Soy inocente y tengo la conciencia tranquila.
I’m innocent and I haven’t got a guilty conscience.

It can also have the meaning of ‘inexperienced’ or ‘naïve’, as in English:

Es una persona muy inocente.
He’s very innocent.

Inocente comes into the phrase el día de los santos inocentes, which is the Spanish equivalent of April Fool’s Day. But instead of being April 1st, it’s December 28th.
