afortunado, adjective:
fortunate, lucky

Afortunado is a key word for lucky:

He sido muy afortunado pudiendo hacer algo que me gusta y que creo que hago bien.
I’ve been very fortunate to be able to do something that I like and that I think I do well.

You can create the opposite of afortunado using poco:

El proyecto contenía términos poco afortunados.
The report contained unfortunate terms.

Deriving from afortunado is the very commonly used afortunadamente, fortunately, or luckily.

Afortunadamente, no llovió ayer sobre Rouen.
Fortunately it didn’t rain in Rouen yesterday.

Afortunadamente para todos, las fotografías y el relato de Nicols fueron muy amenos.
Luckily for everyone the photographs and Nicols’ story were very pleasant.
