tarea, noun:
task, job
You may want to say what task you have in a group or project and tarea can come in handy on such occasions:
Una de mis tareas es repartir la correspondencia.
One of my tasks or jobs is to hand out the mail.
Tasks are sometimes challenging, and this is reflected in the words you often find associated with tarea.
Tenía ante sí una difícil tarea.
He had a difficult task ahead of him.
la ardua tarea de reformar la economia
the arduous task of reforming the economy
la ingente tarea de formar un gobierno
the huge task of forming a government
And in Spanish, just like English, you often don’t get any thanks for what you’ve done!
la ingrata tarea de comunicar malas nuevas
the ungrateful task of transmitting bad news
