cafetero, noun:
coffee grower
Several Latin American countries, principally Colombia, Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala, produce large amounts of coffee. Coffee originally comes from Ethiopia and is believed to have been introduced to Colombia, Latin America’s largest producer, by Catholic missionaries in the 18th century.
One of the world’s largest non-government organizations, La Federación de Cafeteros de Colombia, The Federation of Colombian Coffee Growers, represents the interests of over half a million coffee-growing families.
Cafetero can also be an adjective, as in:
la zona cafetera colombiana
the Colombian coffee-producing area
